An algorithm to detect overlapping red blood cells for sickle cell disease diagnosis

چکیده
In Africa, Uganda is among the countries with a high number of babies (20,000 babies) born sickle cell, contributing between 6.8% children cell every year worldwide and approximately 4.5% hemoglobinopathies worldwide. It estimated that by 2050, cases will increase 30% if no intervention put in place. To facilitate early detection anaemia, medical experts employ machine learning algorithms to detect abnormality. Previous research revealed for recognizing shape from blood smear fractional dimension, cannot cells applied on samples containing overlapping red cells. this research, authors developed an algorithm disease diagnosis. The uses canny edge double threshold techniques takes images as inputs these are anaemic. These have scale magnification (200×, 400×, 650×) pixel taken using microscope. was tested total 1000 digital overall accuracy, sensitivity specificity were 98.18%, 98.29% 97.98% respectively.

Impaired vasodilation by red blood cells in sickle cell disease.
Red blood cells (RBCs) have been ascribed a unique role in dilating blood vessels, which requires O2-regulated binding and bioactivation of NO by Hb and transfer of NO equivalents to the RBC membrane. Vasoocclusion in hypoxic tissues is the hallmark of sickle cell anemia. Here we show that sickle cell Hb variant S (HbS) is deficient both in the intramolecular transfer of NO from heme iron (iron...
متن کاملMicroelasticity of red blood cells in sickle cell disease
Translation of cellular mechanics findings is crucial in many diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, type II diabetes, malaria, sickle cell disease, and cancer. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) is appropriate for measuring mechanical properties of living and fixed cells due to its high force sensitivity and its ability to measure local and overall properties of individual ce...
متن کاملActivated neutrophil-mediated sickle red blood cell adhesion to lung vascular endothelium: role of phosphatidylserine-exposed sickle red blood cells.
Activated neutrophils (ANs) increase sickle red blood cell (SRBC) retention/adhesion in the pulmonary circulation. This study investigates the role of neutrophil activation and SRBC retention/adhesion in the pulmonary circulation through a mechanism that involves increasing phosphatidylserine (PS) exposure on the external membrane surface of the SRBCs (PS-exposed). With the use of flow cytometr...
متن کاملRed blood cell lactate transport in sickle disease and sickle cell trait.
This study determined and compared rates and mechanisms of lactate transport in red blood cells (RBCs) of persons with 1) sickle cell disease (HbSS), 2) sickle cell trait (HbAS), and 3) a control group (HbAA). Blood samples were drawn from 30 African-American volunteers (10 HbSS, 10 HbAS, 10 HbAA). Lactate influx into RBCs was measured by using [14C]lactate at six (2, 5, 10, 15, 25, and 40 mM) ...
متن کاملPartially oxygenated sickled cells: sickle-shaped red cells found in circulating blood of patients with sickle cell disease.
A previously uncharacterized type of sickled cell was found in venous blood of patients with sickle cell disease when blood was collected without exposure to air and fixed immediately with 1% glutaraldehyde solution equilibrated with 5% oxygen. These cells were either elongated, resembling irreversibly sickled cells (ISCs), or nonelongated, with a raisin-like shape. Both types assumed a normal ...
